Although we grew up in the same part of the state, graduated the same year from different high schools, and went to the same college, our paths did not cross until early in the new millennium. Cindy had taught high school English in other parts of the state. She had returned to the area to be near loved ones. Chris, a long-time personal shopper for family and friends, had made some web-based sales as a hobby and enjoyed it. It was a good break from her full-time work as an administrator in state government and partially fulfilled a long-time dream to own a business. Soon after Cindy returned home, Chris learned from a mutual friend that she was looking for a church. Chris extended an invitation to church, Cindy accepted, we met, and have become close friends. The idea for the logo and name for our business began when Chris and her husband, Jim, brought their first-born granddaughter, Grace, to the zoo. Grace wanted to see the flamingos, which she pronounced “plamingos”. Grace liked the color, purple, which is also the color of royalty, nobility and spirituality. The color also reminds us that Lydia, a “seller of purple” in the Bible (Acts 16:14) is an example of a very successful Christian woman in business. Soon after the trip to the zoo, we “hatched” our store, The Purple Plamingo. Then, in January, 2001, we officially opened The Purple Plamingo’s doors to the world. “Serving others with care and prayer” is our motto, and “excellence and integrity” are our bywords. These help keep us focused on the fact that customer service is our primary goal. Because we delight in learning and teaching, our prayer shawls are sent out all over the world with an informational flyer included to promote understanding of their history and use. Our desire is to further God’s kingdom on earth. We are both prayer warriors who have personally experienced God's miraculous healing power and answered prayers many times over. We pray that you and those you love receive God's healing touch and know the Shalom of God - His wholeness in spirit, soul, and body - with nothing missing and nothing broken.
